Compass Regeneration Academy Merseyside - an innovative learning and development forum

28/01/2012

Welcome

Some of the programme's traineesCompass Regeneration Academy Merseyside is an innovative learning and development forum which was set up in 2004 to enhance the professional development of graduates working in the housing and regeneration sector on Merseyside, and to assist housing staff new to the field of regeneration. The programme was initially funded and sponsored by the Housing Corporation, North West Development Agency, RENEW Northwest, Government Office North West, NewHeartlands and the European Social Fund.

Around 2003, a range of skills shortages had been identified in construction and related trades, in regeneration, housing management and neighbourhood renewal in Merseyside and other parts of the country. In response to this skills gap, Compass seeks to pass on industry knowledge and best practice through sharing real experiences encountered in the field so that the region as a whole can benefit. Between 2004 and 2008, just over 130 participants graduated from the Compass programme.

During 2009/10, Compass has been working with Liverpool Hope University to progress our approach. From October 2010 a new certificate is offered by Compass under Hope’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) award scheme, and participants will receive ‘The Professional Certificate in Regeneration’ upon satisfactory completion of the programme.
