Programme
Skills shortages have been identified in construction and related trades, in regeneration, housing management and neighbourhood renewal in Merseyside and other parts of the country. In response to this skills gap, Compass seeks to pass on industry knowledge and best practice through sharing real experiences encountered in the field so that the region as a whole can benefit.
The Compass principle of training differs from those of academic institutions as all of our training is based on actual experience of delivering regeneration “on the ground”.
Our objectives are to:
- Pass on skills and experience gained in four areas:
- Strategic
- Community
- Economic
- Physical Regeneration
- Develop ‘grow your own workforce’ by the local housing organisations defining the specialist skills required in local regeneration
- Provide readily available supply of skilled and experienced workforce to meet recruitment needs of local housing organisations
- Invest in ‘stars of tomorrow’ by supporting and sharing resources, knowledge and talent across Merseyside.
Compass Provides:
- A co-ordinated programme for the training and development of graduate level trainees
- Skills programme around agreed core competencies to enable the “skilling up” of existing staff
- Formal training programme to deliver project management skills
- The opportunity for existing staff to take part in job swaps, shadowing and secondments with partner organisations
- Mentoring by experienced industry professionals.
The benefits of Compass are both short and long-term to the advantage of all housing and regeneration organisations in the Mersey region. Compass will help towards the development of a readily available pool of skilled neighbourhood renewal and regeneration practitioners to meet demands of local regeneration agencies. Its fast track approach will encourage graduates to remain in Merseyside whilst also attracting quality employees into the area.
